A Yucca Valley woman was shot—and later arrested—by deputies after she fired a rifle at them Wednesday afternoon. Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 1400 block of Avalon Avenue in the Yucca Mesa area of Yucca Valley about 2:18 p.m. for a domestic disturbance. A man and child were outside the home when deputies arrived, and said that Cara Burghardt, 37, was in the home and acting erratically. As deputies approached, Burghardt left the house and fired at deputies, at which time they returned fire. Burghardt was injured and taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs for treatment. After her release from the hospital, Cara Burghardt was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with her bail set at $50,000. The rifle was later determined to be a pellet rifle.
