YUCCA VALLEY WOMAN ACCUSED OF STEALING WATER

A Yucca Valley woman was arrested Tuesday, accused of vandalizing a water meter and stealing water. According to a Sheriff’s report, Hi-Desert Water District reported that a water meter in the 56000 block of Joshua Drive had been removed and installed at a home in the 56300 block of Tamarisk Court. The water district also said about $600 worth of water had been stolen/used without payment. The deputy went to the home on Tamarisk about 1 p.m. Tuesday and contacted a woman, later identified as Cheri Durston, 43, who said she had been renting the house since April and paying the landlord personally. When the deputy told her that the woman she named as the landlord was deceased, Durston allegedly changed her story about who the landlord was. Cheri Durston was arrested for investigation of felony vandalism, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $25,000.
