A Yucca Valley woman was arrested Thursday (May 6) accused of DUI. According to Sheriffs reports, Deputies responded to the intersection of Pioneertown Road and Sunnyslope Drive at 1:50 a.m. for a report of a traffic collision. Arriving deputies determined that the driver, identified as Evalina Tamayo, 28, of Yucca Valley, was under the influence of alcohol when she reportedly failed to turn as the roadway curved while driving her Ford north on Pioneertown road. Her vehicle ran through desert brush, collided with a fence surrounding a nearby water basin, then became airborne while colliding with another section of the same fence. The vehicle landed and veered into the roadway of Sunnyslope Drive before running off the road again, colliding with a street sign, and coming to rest in desert brush on the side of the road. Tamayo fled the scene before deputies arrived.
Deputies were later called to a residence in the 700 Block of Scarvan Road for a report of a disturbance between Tamayo and her boyfriend. Deputies located and arrested Tamayo without incident. Tamayo sustained serious injuries from the collision and was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center for treatment. Tamayo was cite for DUI and hit-and run at Hi-Desert Medical Center, and released due to her injuries.
