YUCCA VALLEY VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS CROSS-BASIN RIVAL TWENTYNINE PALMS

In high school sports, the Yucca Valley High School volleyball team defeated cross-basin rivals Twentynine Palms High School Lady cats in five sets: 25-22, 13-25, 18-25, 25-21, 13-15.

This has been an amazing season for Trojan volleyball. These girls have been ALL IN all season and in doing so, the result has been four straight wins, including defeating cross-Basin rivals Twentynine Palms High School Wednesday in a five-set match. The scores, 22-25, 25-13, 25-18, 21-25 and 15-13, depict a battle that was fought for over three hours, ending in sweet victory.

Senior Annie Hilderbrand had one of her best matches of the season. She had a season-high 61 assists, 15 digs, and contributed three aces from behind the serving line.

Outside hitter Stacie Alexander also had a season-high of 19 kills, 20 digs, and was perfect from the serving line.

Loryn Brimhall led the team in aces with four, a season-high 36 digs, and eight kills on offense.

Senior and serving specialist Evalynn Large contributed powerful jump serves that took the opponents out of system and resulted in scoring opportunities for the Trojans.

Senior libero Ella Villamero contributed 35 digs on defense, and was 23 for 26 from behind the serving line. Her consistency as a passer led to the success of the offense in the win.

Junior Katie Alexander contributed 23 digs on defense, five blocks, and 12 kills. 

Senior middle blocker Katelyn Tran added two aces and three kills.

Junior Haley Griswold had a great match with six kills and four blocks. She came through with some big hits in the fifth game that led to the win.

Junior and defensive specialist Deja Valeur contributed 12 digs on defense. She contributed a solid performance on defense and assisted the offense with consistent  passing.

Defensive specialist Lacey Lenninger has been a rock for Coach Tammy Rhodes and this team all season. She is constantly encouraging and supporting her teammates in all aspects of the game.

For the Ladycat varsity, Hailee Jenkins had one ace serve. Gianna Bilderain had two kills. Sadi Rantzow had three kills for the night. Journey Platzke had three ace serves, three kills, and nine assists. Riley King had one assist, five kills, and three solo blocks. Amanda Mohn had one ace serve, 11 assists, and six kills. Mya Chacon had two ace serves, one assist, and six kills. Jhordan Stanley had three ace serves, three assists, six kills and one solo block. Alana Gutierrez and Cassandra Walti played solid defense. The Ladycats finished fourth in league with a record of 9-5 and 19-13 overall.  Playoffs for the Ladycats start next week.

For the Twentynine Palms junior varsity team, Bella Salcido had one ace serve. N’Taiya Youso had one kill. Itzel Solorio and Leah Engesser each had one kill and one ace serve. Zemira Mosqueda had one ace serve and two assists. Gabby Wunderlee had two ace serves and two kills. The ’Cats finish 11-3 in league and tied for second place.
