YUCCA VALLEY VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS CATHEDRAL CITY

In high school sports, the Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan’s volleyball team defeated Cathedral City High school in four sets by a score of 17-25 25-22 25-17 and 25-11.

Senior setter Annie Hilderbrand had another huge match with 36 assists, eight kills, and 12 digs. Outside hitter Loryn Brimhall also had another great match with 34 serves, six of which were aces. Loryn also contributed 23 digs on defense and six kills. Stacie Alexander had a huge night on offense with a total of 14 kills, and nine digs. Libero Ella Villamero, had 33 digs as well as 14 assists. She also contributed three aces from the serving line. Katie Alexander had a huge night on defense with 22 digs, four blocks, and contributed five kills on offense. Haley Griswold continued her presence at the net with six kills on offense.

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan junior varsity volleyball team extended its winning streak on the road, defeating the Cathedral City Lions in two sets, 25-20 and 25-12. 

The Trojans struggled with some unforced errors in the first set but still secured the 25-20 win. 

In the second set, the Lions pulled ahead early 4-0, but the Trojans focused on eliminating their errors and rallied to win the set 25-12. Sophomore Paige Van Hulten had a personal best of six aces for the Trojans, followed by two aces for Carly Brimhall and Leilani Liechti, and one ace each for Brianna Etter and Briana Adams.   

Trojan hitters showed off their skills with Etter, Brimhall, and Liechti each recording three kills, Amanda Cruz and Briana Adams with two kills, and Van Hulten with one. Middle hitter Peyton Cressy was a force on the net both offensively and defensively. The Trojan defense gave 100 percent throughout the matches, with digs coming from libero Desiree Loya, defense specialists Madison Lazarovitz and Kailee Sullivan, and right side hitters Anna Jennings and Loralei Hadley.   

Coach Celeste Hilderbrand said, “Every player on the team stepped onto the court ready to play and contribute to the success of the team.”

The Trojans will return home for their final two games of the season next Tuesday and Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. in the Trojan gym.
