YUCCA VALLEY VARSITY BOYS LOSE TO BANNING

The Yucca Valley High School boys’ basketball teams traveled to Banning Friday. Varsity lost 83-61, junior varsity won 57-22, frosh-soph won 34-12.
Coach Matt Jennings said the Banning team had a very tough lineup that ended up being too much for the varsity team to handle. The Trojans were down by 12 at the end of the first quarter but cut the lead to six points at halftime. The Trojans ran out of steam in the second half and fell short. Standouts were Noah Roy with 16 points and nine rebounds; Jr. Rodriguez had 14 points and two steals; Bryce Mitchell had 13 points and four rebounds; Braden Brimhall scored 10 points and was five for five from the free throw line. The varsity Trojans are now 1-1 in the Desert Valley League.

Junior varsity won 57-22 with a strong defensive effort by the Trojans. Standouts were Jehu Jiminez with 12 points, seven steals; Tayten Shartel- with 11 points, four rebounds, and two steals; Jacob Rideout scored 13 points, six rebounds and four steals.

The frosh-soph team won 34-12 with a lot of contribution from the whole team. Standouts were Tua Kakalia who scored nine points and six rebounds; Demar Smith had eight points and four steals; and Evan Wilson scored eight points and four rebounds.
