Three additional burglary counts have been added to a Yucca Valley transient accused of breaking into the Gateway Pawn shop and two homes in Yucca Valley over Labor Day weekend. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Gateway Pawn was broken into early Friday morning and several items were stolen. Saturday, a real estate agent found Corey Barnes sleeping in a vacant house for sale in the 7300 block of Village Way, along with several items that had been stolen from Gateway Pawn on Friday. Many fixtures and appliances had been stolen from the model home. On Sunday, a homeowner in the 7300 block of Palm Avenue discovered that his travel trailer had been broken into over the weekend, and evidence at the scene linked Barnes to that burglary. This week, detectives determined that Barnes was also linked to three other burglaries, one in Yucca Valley, and two in Joshua Tree. On September 2, a homeowner in the 7500 block of Sage Avenue discovered that a gas stove had been stolen from a vacant home for sale. Barnes is also linked to two burglaries from April in the 61700 block of Oleander Drive in Joshua Tree. Kitchen faucets were stolen from both locations, and a television set was left at one home. Corey Barnes now faces six counts of burglary, and his bail has been raised to $75,000.
