In high school sports, yesterday the Twentynine Palms High School track and field team fought hard against their crosstown rival, the Yucca Valley Trojans. Varsity fell 74-53, the JV boys won 66-24, girls lost 84-42.
Wildcat Coach Ronda Lockett-Morton said for the varsity, Jonathan Carson was a four-event winner in the 4×100, 100m, 200m, and long jump scoring a meet-leading 16.25 points. Other Wildcat standouts were Alex Burns, Beck Gordon, and Brandon Benton.
Prince Williams, Diego Vamstead, and Nicholas Ornelaz-Perez led the Twentynine Palms JV boys to victory.
The LadyCats were led by senior Shania Newby, who scored 15 points, followed by Mariah Banerjee and Mallory Hutchinson, who scored in three of their four events.
Freshman Hurdler Mya Bullion and senior thrower Adam Mapuatuli were named Wildcats of the Week for the Rancho Mirage meet. Next Wednesday the Twentynine Palms team travels to Cathedral City.
