Yucca Valley councilmembers and residents talked trash at the town council meeting last night. Managing editor Tami Roleff has more…
About two dozen residents showed up at last night’s Yucca Valley Town Council meeting to talk trash for 2 ½ hours to the council, and they were spitting mad about being forced to pay for their trash service on their property taxes. Residents argued that a private business shouldn’t be able to bill for its services on a property tax bill, and residents were angry that a default on the bill could result in them losing their house due to liens. Town staff said that about 20 percent of town residents do not have trash service, even though the town requires it. Staff also argued that requiring trash service will reduce illegal dumping in the town. Although Council Members Robert Lombardo and Jim Schooler were initially hesitant to put the Burrtec charges on the property tax bills, the vote was unanimous to approve it.
