Only a handful of residents showed up last night to hear a presentation about Measure Y and Measure Z—the proposed tax measures on the November ballot—prior to last night’s Yucca Valley Town Council meeting. The half-cent tax measures would each add about $1.5 million to the town’s coffers, to be used for roads and infrastructure, and to reduce resident’s sewer assessments. Additional presentations will be held at 5 p.m. prior to each town council meeting until the November election. Managing editor Tami Roleff says during the regular meeting of the town council, council members heard about pools, Grubstake Days, and a new stop sign…
Last night was a night for presentations for the Yucca Valley Town Council. The council heard from the Chamber of Commerce, and about the dream pool facility from the Center for Healthy Generations. The center’s dream is to have three pools: competitive (25×50 meters) with lap swimming, diving, and water polo; recreational, with perhaps various water features; and a toddler pool. Eight years ago the facility was estimated to cost $8.6 million. But the council was told that if the council gives the go-ahead to the pool, the will find a way to raise the money.
In other business, the council also heard an update on Grubstake Days. Last year, the rodeo was very successful, and council members were told that by 2018, the event will be too large for its site and it will have to move somewhere else.
Council members also heard a traffic study report, and learned that even though the county does NOT recommend a multi-way stop at Yucca Trail and La Contenta, the council voted 3 to 1 to change the town’s policy to allow the stop signs be installed at that location. Mayor Bob Leone dissented because he said the entire council should vote on it.
