YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL PART 2: TRAFFIC LIGHTS WON’T SYNC

The Yucca Valley Town Council learned at its meeting Tuesday night that CalTrans’ traffic signal synchronization project has hit a little snafu. The software program has been installed, but, it’s not working. CalTrans hopes to get it up and running soon, however. Managing editor Tami Roleff joins us for part two of a two-part report, with more tidbits from the Town Council meeting…
Tuesday night’s Town Council meeting started with a short “State of the Park” by Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent David Smith. Smith stated that park visitors are up a half million from when he was working here 15 years ago, but staff levels are down, which has forced cuts in programs. Programs at Black Rock Canyon used to reach 22,000 children; now it’s only 10,000. He hopes to remedy that by increasing park fees. Park officials will hold a town hall meeting 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, (Thursday, November 6), in the Bell Center at Copper Mountain College to discuss the possible fee increases. County Fire Chief Dave Benfield told the Council that the fire department will be getting a new $900,000 ladder truck in the next month or so to replace the ladder truck that is no longer operable. The PFF bank sign, described as “an eyesore,” will be coming down this week. And the Town is trying to convince CalTrans to take down the reflective signs in the medians recently installed on the highway on the west end of town.
