New districting maps were approved by Yucca Valley Town Council at last night’s (February 1) meeting, and the council also received an update on this year’s Grubstake Days Celebration. Reporter Jef Harmatz is here with a complete account of the meeting.
At last night’s regularly scheduled meeting, the Council approved a motion to move forward with new district boundaries for the town. New districts were drawn based on data from the 2020 census, and, after last night’s fourth public hearing on the subject, the council selected a map described as a “small tweak” to the current boundaries. The council also received an update on 2022’s Grubstake Days from the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce, who said that the spring event is moving forward with a full slate of activities including a parade, golf tournament, country Western dance, beard competition, and more. A request that the town provide more than $65,000 for a rodeo component to the event was reluctantly rejected, with council members remaining optimistic for a rodeo in town in 2023. Finally, the council approved the spending of $146,000 in grant funding for improvements to the Tri Valley Little League field.
