With the revenue generated by Measure Y, the Yucca Valley Town Council approved an amendment to the Sheriff’s contract that will bring a new detective and Sheriff’s Service Specialist to the town. Managing editor Tami Roleff says residents should notice a difference, starting in January…
Thanks to the passing of the Measure Y sales tax, the town of Yucca Valley has the funds to hire a new detective and Sheriff’s Service Specialist for the town. Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station Captain Jeff Joling said his department is understaffed, adding the positions will greatly enhance the Sheriff’s service to the residents of the town.
“We don’t have the manpower to do follow-ups, to contact the victims, to follow through on investigations that otherwise would never be worked. These cases just never get followed up on just because of a lack of manpower.”
Joling also noted that adding an additional Sheriff’s Service Specialist will dramatically reduce call times. The new additions will be added around the beginning of 2018.
In other business, the council approved an agreement with AirBnB, in which the company will collect and remit transient occupancy taxes on short-term vacation rentals to the town.
And during councilmember comments, Jeff Drozd announced that he has accepted a full-time position with Copper Mountain College as a job developer. He will leave his teaching position with Yucca Valley High School between November 1 and 15.
