YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL MET LAST NIGHT, PART 1 OF 2

The Yucca Valley Town Council met in a busy session last night, Managing Editor Tami Roleff breaks her report into two parts. Today, in the first part, she focuses on an appeal of a Planning Commission ruling…
After considerable discussion, and some hard questions of Town staff and the business owner, the Yucca Valley Town Council refused to uphold a Planning Commission decision from August concerning BTI Rock and Sand on Yucca Trail, and sent it back to the Planning Commission for further deliberations. Council member Dawn Rowe, who initiated the appeal of the Commission’s decision, said that by allowing BTI to have a chain link fence, instead of a block wall, contradicted the Town’s Old Town Specific Plan which prohibits chain link fencing in the public view. In addition, the Council learned that an auto repair shop is also operating at the same location. And, an environmental report was presented for the first time at the meeting last night which showed that hazardous materials, including PCBs, are present in the soil, from when a recycling business was on the site many years ago. The Council will review the Old Town Specific Plan at a future meeting. Tomorrow, in part two, the rest of the meeting.
