Andres Castillo with the U.S. Census spoke to the Yucca Valley Town Council about the importance of all residents participating in the 2020 Census. The town, county, and state all receive federal funding, and oftentimes the amount of the funding is tied to population. So having a correct Census count is critically important. Castillo stressed the confidentiality of the census. He noted that the 2020 Census does not include a question about the respondent’s citizenship. The census will start counting residents April 1 and go through July 31.
In comments following the meeting, Town Manager Curtis Yakimow informed the council that Hosanna City Church had found another facility to use for its services, and won’t be renting the community center after all.
Deputy Town Manager Shane Stueckle said the town is in talks with Caltrans over whether it’s really necessary to add another traffic signal at Prescott Avenue, which is just a very short distance from a signal at Avalon Avenue.
Two members of the public spoke against a new ordinance adopted by the council in the consent agenda that restricts people from displaying signs or collecting signatures for petitions on the ball field during the summer concerts.
