In other business at the Yucca Valley Town Council meeting Tuesday night, the council voted to reject all five bids that were submitted to manage the construction of the new aquatics center and gymnasium, as none of the applicants had significant experience managing such projects. Town staff have been calling design and architectural firms asking them to submit bids; seven to nine firms are expected to submit bids with a new deadline of awarding the contract in June.
The council also heard an update on capital projects: Little League Drive pedestrian improvements, upgrading the Senior Center and Community Center’s Yucca Room kitchen, North Park improvements (parking lot, restrooms, and a trail connecting the parking lot with the park trails), and a redesign of the former library. Staff expect the library redesign and renovation to take 1 ½ years to two years.
In a review of the budget, the council learned that after a sharp drop in revenue early in the COVID-19 pandemic last year, revenues are back on track.
