YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL HEARS REPORTS AND SPENDS MONEY LAST NIGHT

The Yucca Valley Town Council began its meeting last night with an introduction of Miss Yucca Valley and her court, followed by a report by Jackie Combs of the Morongo Basin Healthcare District. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the rest of the meeting was about spending money…
The Yucca Valley Town Council heard a progress report at its meeting last night from the Desert Regional Tourism Agency about its online tourism marketing strategy. For $40,000 a year, two part-time employees are setting up a website, an email list, as well as making its presence known on Instagram, Twitter, and Youtube (viewers are steadily growing each month since its inception in September). The council was advised that the $40,000 contract will likely be renewed next year and to expect it in next year’s budget.
In other news, the council heard an update on the budget. Revenues and expenditures are pretty much in line with where staff expects them to be. Tax revenues to the town are increasing, due in part to good auto sales and the new fast food businesses in the town. But while revenues are up by $72,000, overtime payments for public safety and other public safety expenditures will be an extra $130,000.
