The Yucca Valley Town Council got some good news and some bad news about the condition of its roads at its meeting Tuesday night during a report on the town’s capital improvement project five-year plan. Managing editor Tami Roleff explains in the first part of a three-part report…
During the presentation on the town’s capital improvement project Tuesday night, the Yucca Valley Town Council was told that Hi-Desert Water District is obligated to repave all the roads it digs up when it installs sewer lines. “Over the next 10 years, a majority of the town’s maintained road system is going to be completely reconstructed.” However, Deputy Town Manager Shane Stueckle said the new roads come with their own set of challenges. “How are we going to take care of those new roads long term?” The problem is that the town doesn’t have the half million dollars it will take each and every year to maintain the new roads, as well as the half million it will cost to repair the roads that are not repaved during the sewer project. The council was urged to keep road maintenance high on the priority list during future budget discussions.
