The Yucca Valley Town Council met in regular session last night. The Council heard about new fire stations and approved park improvements. Managing Editor Tami Roleff was at that meeting and files this report…
Yucca Valley may be getting not one, but two new fire stations in the next five years or so. County Fire Battalion Chief Tom Marshall told the town council at its meeting Tuesday night that the town has simply outgrown its current Fire Station 41, which is one of the county’s oldest fire stations. With just a staff of seven firefighters and paramedics, Station 41 responded to nearly 8,800 calls last year. Marshall hopes that the county will start building a new fire station—estimated to cost $7.7 million—in the west end of Yucca Valley by next year; a second station, estimated to cost $3.3 million, would be built by the county on the east end of town about five years later. In other business, the council approved $409,000 in Paradise Park improvements. Thanks to grants, the town will only be spending $75,000 in general funds on the project.
