The Yucca Valley Town Council started its meeting off Tuesday night with a mid-year budget review, and got mostly good news. The Town’s estimated expenditures are slightly below the Town’s anticipated revenues. The Town had expected sales tax revenues to fall by 2 percent, but instead sales tax revenues are on track to increase by 2 percent over last year. However, as anticipated, property tax revenues are still declining, but only by about 1.1 percent. The Council also got updates on various projects around the Town. The Council was also updated on the highway projects on the west end of town at its meeting Tuesday night. It’s expected that the traffic cones will be removed next week, and then the contractor will start work on striping the highway, and working on curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and driveways. As for the highway work from Apache to Palm Avenue, construction is expected to start February 15. In addition to highway projects, construction will start Monday on playground improvements at Paradise Park. And the Town plans to restripe the intersection at Palomar Avenue and Yucca Trail to try and prevent drivers from passing on the right in the intersection. Other projects in the works are slurry seal on Joshua Lane and Joshua Drive in April; the tennis courts at Jacobs Park in May; a traffic light at Dumosa and the highway in June; and improving road safety on Sage Avenue from the highway to the high school, in July.
