The Yucca Valley Town Council didn’t conduct any business yesterday, but it heard many updates about activities going on throughout the town. Managing editor Tami Roleff gives a brief overview of some of the items…
During a presentation about capital improvement projects in the town, the Yucca Valley Town Council learned that the town hopes to complete the improvements at North Park in fiscal year 2021/22. Upgrading the kitchen at the Senior Center is a 21-month long project that won’t be finished until next year. It’s unknown at this time how listing Joshua trees as threatened under the state’s endangered species act will affect the town’s new aquatic center, as there are many Joshua trees on the council’s preferred site, and just a few trees on the council’s second choice for a site. The town has allocated $100,000 to redesign the old library. The council was warned that whatever project goes into the space will most likely be done in phases, since construction costs are estimated at $400 to $500 a square foot, for $3.2 to $4 million. And the council discussed how the town should definitely have more public art.
