YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL EXTENDS TIME FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA NEGOTIATION

With a legal deadline approaching, the Yucca Valley Town Council got more time from the proponents who successfully petitioned for an ordinance allowing medical marijuana. Managing Editor Tami Roleff was at a special council meeting on the matter last night…
As expected, the Yucca Valley Town Council approved an agreement at a special meeting last night, that would provide more time for negotiations between the town’s ad hoc committee and the proponents of the medical marijuana dispensary initiative. The two groups will have until March 17 to reach a compromise on the ordinance that would permit medical marijuana dispensaries in the town. Once a compromise is reached, the proposed ordinance petition would come before the Town Council, which would then either adopt the ordinance or schedule a special election for town residents to vote on it. Several council members indicated last night that they were in favor of a special election. At its January 20 meeting, the council ordered an impact report on the effects of a medical marijuana dispensary; that report is expected to be presented at its regular meeting next week.
