The Yucca Valley Town Council had a lengthy agenda to tackle at last night’s regular meeting, including the approval of a new electronic message board for the community center and discussions on a moratorium on new murals. For more, we go to reporter Jef Harmatz…
At Tuesday night’s meeting, the town council approved a 45 day moratorium on approving new murals for any commercial property. After a number of unpermitted murals have gone up, the moratorium will give the town council a timeline for revising mural standards and the mural application process. The results of the Community Livability Survey, were shared, and residents consider the quality life in Yucca Valley to be generally high; the town’s emergency services were rated particularly well, in the survey, with homelessness and a lack dining options as two of it’s larger problems. (The survey’s results revealed a town divided over the impact of vacation rentals and tourism.) The council also received a report on district rezoning efforts that incorporate the town’s growth as measured by the U.S. census, approved a $42,700 electronic sign for COVID-19 messaging, and adopted the Five-Year Capital Improvement Program for Fiscal Years 2021/2022 through 2025/2026, which includes programs to improve roads.
