YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL APPROVES ANIMAL SHELTER IMPROVEMENTS

In November 2012, the Yucca Valley Animal Shelter received a bequest of more than $300,000 from the estate of Cyla Wells that was designated for the operation of the town’s animal shelter. And in January 2015, the town received a bequest from the Charles C. May trust for more than $63,000, also for the animal shelter. Last night, managing editor Tami Roleff says the town council was presented with a plan to spend the money…
Melanie Crider, the town’s animal care and control manager, gave the Yucca Valley Town Council last night a wish list of improvements for the town’s animal shelter. Among the items are livestock pens; more shade covers for the outdoor animal areas; fencing slats; storage sheds; driveway improvements; and a generator. In addition, Crider estimated that the remaining $256,000 of the two bequests would pay for the town’s spay and neuter voucher system, sponsored adoptions, and medical and dental expenditures for the next eight years. The council unanimously approved the animal shelter expenditure plan.
In other business, the council also accepted the report on the strategic planning outreach. The council will receive a draft report at its next meeting.
