YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL APPOINTS DENNISON AND NAPIENTEK

The Yucca Valley Town Council met last night to appoint a new planning commissioner and to discuss cancelling the election for Mayor Rick Denison’s seat in District 5 because he had no competition. Managing editor Tami Roleff fills in the details…
After quite a bit of discussion, the Yucca Valley Town Council voted unanimously to cancel the election for District 5 for Mayor Rick Denison’s seat since no one else filed to run against him. Council member Bob Leone voiced the opinion that while he supported Denison’s appointment to the council, he felt that the District 5 should still be on the ballot in case there was a write-in candidate who wanted to challenge Denison. The cancellation of District 5 election will not affect the election for District 1 and District 3, but will save the town between $5,000 and $7,000. In other business, the council also voted unanimously to appoint Brad Napientek to fill a vacant seat on the planning commission. His term will last through January 31, 2021. And finally, the council heard a report from the Building and Safety Department. A single employee completed thousands of commercial and residential inspections last year, and managed to complete 100 percent of all inspections requested on the same day for those that were called in by 7 a.m.
