Yucca Valley High School Trojan
swimmers traveled to Cathedral City High School Wednesday for their
fifth league dual meet. They proved that every race counts
winning 84-73 for boys and 100-70 for girls.
Coach Rebecca Pessa
said the boys were down 22-19 at the end of the individual relay, and
picked up a lead after the 50-freestyle with Wyatt Gill and Ryley
Arrona’s one-two finish. Carl Manter out-touched the Cathedral
City flyer with a time of 1:04.03 to 1:04.82 and to help the Trojans
gain the lead, 37-30. They held their lead throughout the
remainder of the meet.
The ladies kicked off the meet with a CIF-consideration time of 2:14.09 in the 200-medley relay with Makayla Manter swimming backstroke, Ashley Amstutz the breaststroke, Kaylee Powellthe fly, and Markina Evdokimoff-freestyle. Markina lowered her 500-meter freestyle CIF consideration time to a 6:19.53.
The ladies now have three of three relays and four of seven individual events with consideration times. Both teams are undefeated 5-0, and they will swim their last two league meets at home. Wednesday, April 3, they take on Desert Mirage and Wednesday, April 10, Twentynine Palms.
