Yucca Valley seeks artist’s concepts for new monument signage

The Town of Yucca Valley is looking for artists to create conceptual artwork and designs for entrance monument signage to welcome residents and visitors into town.

The Town seeks innovative and captivating designs that reflect the identity of the local community. The press release says that the artist’s design should reflect Yucca Valley’s unique characteristics, including its natural landscape, community values, and cultural heritage.

This concept is only the first phase of developing the Entrance Monument Signage – phase 2 will consist of schematic design, construction and installation, wherein the Town will release a Request for Proposals to complete the project with a professional services contract. Materials will also be decided during this phase.

The sign will be located at the southwest corner of Twentynine Palms highway and Camino Del Cielo Trl., and should be appropriately scaled for visibility from the road, considering both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The proposed sign should have a maximum height of 8 ft. with a max width of 12ft.

To submit for the sign – prepare hi-res digital images or detailed sketches of the proposed conceptual design, along with a brief artist’s statement of 500 words or less explaining the concept, inspiration, and intended impact of the design.

Preference will be given to local artists. The selected artist will receive a stipend of $1500.

Submitted designs will be reviewed by the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Commission. Any selected design will undergo an 8-week public comment period. Public comments will be reviewed by the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Commission. The Town Council will review all artwork, the process, public comments, and selections made by the Commissions and approve their final selection.

The application period is open now and submissions must be emailed to [email protected] by August 14th.
