The last nail has been driven into the coffin of an attempted recall of Yucca Valley Town Councilman George Huntington and Robert Lombardo. Friday, the County Registrar of Voters sent official notification that a 100 percent hand recount of petitions to place a recall on the ballot had still fallen short of the signatures needed. The final results showed that signatures were 167 short for the recall of George Huntington and 154 short for Robert Lombardo. Included in the notification was a bill to the Town of Yucca Valley for $20,120.12 for the cost of the petition review and recount. 2,461 votes, or 25% of the registered voters in the Town, were needed to qualify the recall for ballot. While proponents turned in about 2,700 signatures on each petition, about 400 on each were ruled invalid.
