YUCCA VALLEY PLANNING COMMISSION SETS SIGN ORDINANCE PUBLIC HEARING

Planning commissioner chair Steve Whitten expressed his extreme disappointment last night about the lack of attendance at the Yucca Valley Planning Commission’s meeting. Managing editor Tami Roleff was one of three people in the audience at the meeting and files this report…
Manuel Borges of Yucca Valley was the only resident who commented on the possible revision of the sign code ordinance at last night’s meeting of the Yucca Valley Planning Commission, and he urged commissioners to consider the night skies when discussing changes to the sign ordinance that would allow lighted, electronic signs. The commissioners all agreed, and gave direction to town staff to require electronic signs be turned off at night in residential neighborhoods. In addition, commissioners discussed allowing a 32 square-foot monument sign, up from 24 square feet, but the electronic message areas shall not exceed 25 percent of the total sign area of the sign structure it is attached to. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing December 18 on the changes to the sign ordinance.
