Last night, the Yucca Valley Planning Commission rejected an application to destroy a Wester Joshua Tree, as well as a request for a zoning variance. For more details, we go to reporter Jef Harmatz…
At yesterday’s regularly scheduled meeting, an agenda item regarding the destruction of a Western Joshua Tree on the 6400 block of Piedmont Dr. was modified, as the council asked the applicant to consider trans-planting the tree instead. (A request by Burrtec to transplant ten Western Joshua Trees was pushed to next month’s meeting so that the commission could receive more details about future location of the trees.) The commission approved several items relating to Western Joshua Trees including the transplant of 10 (on the 58000 block of Piedmont Dr., and the 56000 block Skyline Ranch Road) and the encroachment of five (on the 57000 block of Warren Way, 7600 block of Apache Trail, 5600 block of Taos Trail, and the 57000 block of Redondo St). as well as the removal of 36 Mojave Yuccas, six California Junipers, and four Pinon Pines (on the 58000 block of Piedmont Dr. and the 56000 block Skyline Ranch Road). An application for a zoning variance regarding setbacks at a residential property on the 53000 block of Ridge Road was rejected, and the commission asked the applicant to consider modifying construction plans to accommodate a smaller setback.
