Yucca Valley Planning Commission recap: Chipotle and other new YV businesses

The Yucca Valley Planning Commission meeting covered a lot of information in an hour-long session.

The Quick Quack Car wash project is progressing, and the Nice Dreams Restaurant application is coming in on February 27. Also, Chipotle’s plans came in at the end of the day yesterday, and Staff is working on a master plan for Hwy 62 Beautification.

The General Plan Annual Housing Element Progress Report update as of April 2022 revealed the population of Yucca Valley experienced a slight decrease, with 36 permits for new family homes. The slight downturn does not affect the town.

The Council approved the Gusa Mini Storage request for an extension, and the property is up for sale. There is an application for a new Coffee shop at the Stater Bros site, and Auto Camp, which has purchased Travel Lodge, is working with Building and Safety on minor cosmetic upgrades. The town received an inquiry for a Boeing 737 accessory dwelling, and Deputy Manager Shane Stueckle suggested further discussions on single-family design standards.

In addition, the town staff surveyed residents for an upgrade to Essig Park. Plans are being formulated to include shade, lighting, and grass improvements, which must begin this spring.

Lastly, Stueckle reported the Fish and Game Commission met on February 8 and deferred the protection of the Joshua tree to State Legislation.
