Busy 29 Palms City Council Meeting Begins with a Workshop

At 5:15 p.m., 45 minutes prior to Wednesday’s Twentynine Palms City Council meeting, there will be several presentations on priorities for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. City staff wants to focus on the reconstruction of the outdoor basketball courts and Luckie Park upgrades. The city will receive approximately $163,000 in CDBG funds for Fiscal Year 2023/2024.

The official meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and features two public hearings. The first hearing will re-visit an appeal to halt a Vacation Home Rental (VHR) permit at 68467 Sullivan Road. The second hearing will focus on issuance of tax-exempt bonds for the creation of a 48-unit multi-family rental housing project known as Twentynine Palms Apartments.

A long list of discussion topics will begin with the Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC) – the number of members, the date/time of the meetings, and the revised mission statement. The council will then select two councilmembers to serve as Delegate and Alternate Delegate for the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Annual General Assembly.

The council will then hear a mid-year budget update for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 before taking on the Planning Commission – specifically, re-appointing Jason Dickson and Max Walker and appointing newcomer Eileen Leslie to the commission.

Finally, the council will discuss an intention to terminate the inactive Fire Safety Plan.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday, February 15, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road, and can be livestreamed or viewed on-demand via the city’s website, www.29palms.org
