YUCCA VALLEY PLANNING COMMISSION LOOKING AHEAD

LEAD: At a short meeting, the Yucca Valley Planning Commission received updates on private developments and looked ahead to upcoming challenges. Reporter Jef Harmatz has a full breakdown.

At last night’s regularly scheduled meeting, the commission received an update on the status of several pre-applications across town, including new restaurants, a new grocery store, and an electric vehicle charging station. After quickly approving ecological applications, including the encroachment within ten feet of five Western Joshua Trees (in the 7400 block of Hopi Trail, the 56000 block of Onaga Trail, the 7000 block of Tamarisk Ave, the 7400 block of Condalia Ave,) the removal of two dead detached Western Joshua Trees (in the 58000 block of Desert Gold Drive and the 7200 block of Palm Ave), and the transplant of three Mojave Yuccas, (in the 7500 block of Rockaway Ave and the 4800 block of Elata Ave), the commission looked ahead to public hearings scheduled for their November 23 meeting. These hearings include controversial issues relating to short-term vacation rental code, enforcement, and density. The commission will also hold public hearings as they reconsider the town’s classifications of family housing, hotels, and campgrounds.
