Yucca Valley Planning Commission approves commercial permits for new businesses

During the review of the Chipotle signage permit, a representative from the company said they are making the adjustments needed and will return with corrections.

The Commissioners approved the permit with that stipulation. Renovating the Sizzler building, the Black Bear Diner generated a lengthy conversation on signage regulations when they asked permission to place two additional Black Bear statues outside the restaurant. The code states only one freestanding sign is allowed; the bears are considered signage. The current monument sign is larger than regulations allow, and roof signage is not permitted.

Therefore, the addition of the Bear statues was denied. The Commissioners approved the exterior colors and the monument sign after size adjustments. The Commissioner’s comments included revising signage regulations.

Deputy Town Manager Shane Stueckle said changing the sign code could be complicated and take up to two years, but it will be discussed later.

In the Land Development Update Report, Staff said that High Desert Times is the next project coming up before the Commission, Starbucks West is moving slowly, and Provisional use permits for Century Communications will soon be before the Commission.

Cole Michael Salon is up for a change to a bar. STR permits are around 45, and Staff is researching how many Short Term rentals have changed to long-term rentals or stopped renting.

Finally, there is a Continuation for the Valley Pipeline project as Staff explores how they can help the company meet its goal.
