A motorcycle rider was hospitalized last week after a car turned in front of him in Landers. According to the California Highway Patrol, Henry Marcoccia, 50, of Philadelphia, was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla northbound on Old Woman Springs Road shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday. As Marcoccia approached the intersection with Tracy Boulevard, he started to turn left, right in front of Klaus Hollerith, 50, of Yucca Valley, who was riding southbound on the highway. Hollerith’s 2006 BMW R1200 motorcycle collided with the right front panel of the Toyota, and Hollerith was thrown from his motorcycle. Hollerith sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs for treatment. The CHP reminds residents to take an additional second or two to look for motorcycles when making turns or pulling out onto roads.
