A Yucca Valley man was arrested Sunday after he threatened a store manager with a knife during an alleged shoplifting incident. About 3:30 p.m., Jerred Schmidt-Steffler, 18, and another person entered the Stater Bros store in the 57000 block of 29 Palms Highway and filled a grocery cart with items. When they attempted to leave the store without paying for the items, the store manager confronted Schmidt-Steffler, who then pulled out a pocket knife. Schmidt-Steffler and the other person fled the store. A deputy located Schmidt-Steffler at the Circle K gas station a few minutes later. Jerred Schmidt-Steffler was arrested for investigation of armed robbery, booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $100,000.
