A Yucca Valley man is out $500 after he fell victim to an eBay scam. The victim told Sheriff deputies that he purchased a computer part off of eBay for $500 but when his package arrived, it contained a photo of the part and not the part itself. Reporter Cassidy Taylor offers these tips for avoiding this scam…
This classic, yet extremely devious scam, resurfaced when the Play Station 5 launched, and it isn’t going anywhere. Here’s how it works; a seller offers a product at an unusually lower, yet still possible, price accompanied by quality pictures and a decent description, everything looks great! Until a box comes with a picture of the item and not the item you thought you purchased. Eventually, you will go back and read fine print only see phrases like “photo of item,” or “item box only,” even “item sold separately.” Leaving you with no recourse and a great deal of regret.
To avoid this scam, go through the description carefully. If in doubt, ask the seller a question and document that answer. Also, check the weight of the product. When was the last time you heard of a laptop weighing less than a pound?
