YUCCA VALLEY MAN INJURED FOLLOWING PURSUIT, CRASH; SUSPECTED OF ILLEGAL DRUG SALES

A Yucca Valley man was injured following a high-speed pursuit through Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley Monday. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Raman Singh saw what appeared to be a drug sale at the corner of Park Boulevard and Highway 62 in Joshua Tree about 2 p.m. As Singh approached, the suspect, later identified as George Garcia, 47, took off on a motorcycle and failed to yield to deputies who attempted a traffic stop. Garcia fled southbound on Sunset Avenue and then west on Alta Loma, driving recklessly and at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Deputies stopped the pursuit when Garcia crossed into Yucca Valley town limits, but Garcia was located shortly afterward during an area search. Garcia had been involved in a single-vehicle crash at Palomar Avenue and Joshua Lane in Yucca Valley. Deputies detained Garcia and summoned medical aid for him. Prescription narcotics, consistent with illegal sales, were found at the scene. Deputies obtained a search warrant and went to Garcia’s home in the 58600 block of San Marino Avenue in Yucca Valley where they found six ounces of methamphetamine packaged for sales. George Garcia was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs for the injuries he sustained in the crash. The District Attorney’s office will review whether to file charges against Garcia.
