A Yucca Valley man was arrested early Monday morning after he was found with a stolen gun. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy was patrolling Santa Fe Trail shortly before 3 a.m. when he saw Zachary Ruhs, 19, walking in the street near Deer Trail. Believing Ruhs to be a minor out after curfew, the deputy stopped to question him. The report states that Ruhs admitted to the deputy that he had a loaded gun in his waistband. A records check of the gun found that it had been reported stolen in Lompoc in September. Ruhs initially told the deputy that he had fought with another man an hour earlier near the intersection of Cherokee Trail and Pueblo Trail, and during the fight, two shots had been fired, and that Ruhs had taken the gun from the other man. The deputy canvassed the area but found no evidence of a fight, shell casings, or witnesses who heard shots fired; Ruhs then admitted there had not been a fight. Zachary Ruhs was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen firearm, booked at the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $25,000.
