A Yucca Mesa man was arrested last night, accused of beating his girlfriend. According to a Sheriff’s report, Robert Bell, 50, was arguing with his long-time girlfriend in the 2900 block of La Habra Avenue in Yucca Valley about 10 p.m. when he allegedly hit her in the face, possibly breaking her nose, and then shot a shotgun into the air outside the house. The woman ran next door to a neighbor’s home to call for help. When deputies arrived, Bell refused to come out of the home for about two hours. The Sheriff’s report states that family members tried to call Bell on the telephone to convince him to come out. Witnesses told Z107.7 News that a helicopter was flying overhead with lights and a bullhorn, urging Bell to come out. Finally, Robert Bell emerged just after midnight and was arrested for investigation of felony spouse abuse and being under the influence of drugs. Bell was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his total bail set at $55,000.
