YUCCA VALLEY MAN ARRESTED FOR DUI HIT AND RUN

A Yucca Valley man was arrested Saturday evening, accused of driving under the influence and hit and run. According to a Sheriff’s report, Benito Cardenas, 39, was driving northbound on Hanford Avenue in Yucca Valley about 5:30 p.m. when he is said to have hit at least two mailboxes, and then left the scene. A witness told police that the driver blew through a stop sign at Hanford Avenue and the Highway. The car then turned westbound onto Alta Mesa and was said to have driven almost on the sidewalk and up a tree. Deputies went to the home of Benito Cardenas in the 7000 block of Emerson in Yucca Valley where they arrested him for investigation of driving without a license, and for driving under the influence of drugs. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and released the next morning on bail.
