YUCCA VALLEY MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING IDENTITY THEFT INVESTIGATION

A Yucca Valley man is being held without bail after a search warrant revealed evidence of identity theft. According to a Sheriff’s press release, on Tuesday (March 22), the Multiple Enforcement Team (MET) from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Morongo Basin Station executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 7500 Block of Apache Trail in Yucca Valley, related to an identity theft investigation. The team was tasked with investigating a string of recent identity thefts from several different victims who all resided out of state but had occurred in Yucca Valley.

During the investigation, detectives reportedly identified the suspect responsible as Derek Burnham, 33. The search warrant was served at Burnham’s residence where deputies say they recovered illegal narcotics, personal information, and documents belonging to the out-of-state victims. Derek Burnham was arrested for investigation of theft with the intent to defraud with prior convictions and booked into the West Valley Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.
