YUCCA VALLEY MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT THURSDAY MORNING

A Yucca Valley man was arrested early this morning after he led deputies on a high speed chase through Yucca Valley. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Levi Korhonen, 42, near Onaga Trail and Warren Vista about 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Korhonen refused to stop for the deputy’s lights and sirens, and a pursuit ensued. Due to the hour, there was very little traffic on the streets. During the pursuit through residential neighborhoods of Yucca Valley, deputies said Korhonen blew through stop signs and drove on the wrong side of the road, at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. The pursuit ended when Korhonen attempted to drive through a dirt wash and his vehicle became stuck. Korhonen fled, but was located in the back yard of a residence in the 58000 block of Desert Gold Drive. Deputies discovered that Korhonen’s 17-year-old son was a passenger in the vehicle during the pursuit. He was taken to family members in the area. Levi Korhonen was arrested for investigation of felony evading and child endangerment, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $100,000.
