YUCCA VALLEY MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT

A Yucca Valley man was arrested Thursday afternoon following a high-speed chase through the Morongo Basin. About 2:30 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers were called about a red sport bike that was speeding near Yucca Valley High School and crossed over double yellow lines to pass a school bus. The rider, later identified as Ted Dumas, 20, failed to stop for deputies, and sped off at a high rate of speed, leading deputies and CHP officers on a high-speed pursuit through the Morongo Basin for more than 30 minutes and 44 miles. Dumas was clocked at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour westbound on the highway before turning northbound onto Yucca Mesa Road, where the pursuit continued in the Yucca Mesa area. Dumas nearly hit several vehicles as he drove into oncoming traffic, and blew through stop signs. Dumas finally stopped at Indio Trail and Buena Vista Avenue about 3 p.m. and he was taken into custody at gunpoint. Ted Dumas was arrested for investigation of felony evading, and was released about 11 p.m. Thursday on $100,000 bail.
