YUCCA VALLEY MAN ARRESTED AFTER HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT OF A MOTORCYCLE

A Yucca Valley man who led Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed pursuit through residential neighborhoods of town was arrested Wednesday. A Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle near Avalon Avenue and Highway 62 just after 3 p.m. because the passenger on the bike was not wearing a helmet. The rider dropped off the passenger at the corner and sped off. The deputy pursued the motorcycle for about 10 minutes; during the pursuit, the rider ran several stop signs and exceeded 90 miles per hour in several locations. The deputy lost the bike near Juarez Drive and La Contenta Avenue, but additional information led deputies to a home in the 59100 block of Desert Gold Drive where John Ligon, 48, was arrested on several warrants. The motorcycle had been reported stolen in Twentynine Palms. John Ligon was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and on a warrant for felony vandalism, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and was released early this morning on a bail of $55,000.
