YUCCA VALLEY MAN ARRESTED AFTER A SUSPECTED DUI HIT AND RUN

A Yucca Valley man was arrested Wednesday following a hit-and-run crash that injured his passenger. About 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, David Offutt, 23, was driving a Ford Focus southbound on Elk Trail in Yucca Valley when he ran the stop sign at Onaga Trail. Stephen Dueker, 63, of Yucca Valley, was driving a Ford F150 pick-up truck eastbound on Onaga Trail and broadsided the passenger side of Offutt’s car. The force of the collision then sent the pick-up truck into a water hydrant on the southeast corner, rendering it inoperable. Investigators say Offutt immediately got out of his car and fled, leaving behind his passenger, Roque Cordova-Campos, 46, of Yucca Valley, who was injured in the crash. Paramedics took Roque Cordova-Campos to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs for treatment. Deputies located David Offutt about 3:30 p.m. in the 58900 block of Barron Drive, where he was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of methamphetamine and felony hit-and-run, and on three outstanding drug- and weapons-related warrants. Offutt was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $50,000.
