A Yucca Valley man, who told deputies he didn’t want to go back to jail, led deputies on a high-speed pursuit from Landers to Hesperia early Saturday morning. About 3:40 a.m., a deputy attempted to stop a 2000 silver BMW, driven by Michael Jenkins, 43, for speeding and a burned-out headlight, on Old Woman Springs Road near Happy Trail. Jenkins drove northbound on the highway, at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour, and drove into oncoming traffic several times. When Jenkins got to Hesperia, Hesperia deputies took over the pursuit until he was finally stopped near Maple Avenue and Cedar Street. Jenkins, who had a $175,000 felony warrant for failure to yield, told deputies he didn’t stop because he didn’t want to go back to jail. Michael Jenkins was arrested for investigation of felony failure to yield, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $100,000.
