YUCCA VALLEY MAN ACCUSED OF STEALING SEVERAL CARS FROM A DEALERSHIP

A Yucca Valley man was arrested Tuesday, accused of stealing multiple vehicles from a used car dealership early Monday. Sheriff’s deputies say about 1:10 a.m. Monday morning, Odie Beavers, 49, broke the glass to the door of the Route 62 Auto Sales dealership in Yucca Valley and stole the keys to at least four vehicles—as well as the vehicles. The thefts were discovered about 9 a.m. Monday. Just before 6 p.m. Monday, one of the stolen vehicles, a 2010 Chevy Traverse, was discovered abandoned in the desert off Old Woman Springs Road and Valle Vista. The vehicle was unoccupied, unlocked, and undamaged. Detectives developed leads for the location of the other stolen vehicles, and went to the 61500 block of Sonora Road in Joshua Tree about 1 p.m. Tuesday. As deputies arrived in the area, Beavers was seen getting out of a black Mercedes sedan which was parked near a home. When Beavers saw the deputies, he jumped a fence and ran, but he was taken into custody after a foot chase. The Mercedes was determined to be another of the vehicles stolen the day before. Two other vehicles have been recovered and detectives suspect Beavers stole at least two others. Odie Beavers, who is a wanted parolee at large, was arrested for investigation of being in possession of stolen vehicle, and on a no-bail warrant for violating the terms of his parole, and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail.
