A Yucca Valley man who stole a car from a Yucca Valley car dealer was arrested Tuesday. About 4 p.m. Tuesday, an employee from Yucca Valley Chrysler notified deputies that he located a stolen 2009 Ford Focus near Sunburst Avenue and Oleander Drive in Joshua Tree with a man inside the car. The employee said the suspect was trying to get all his belongings out of the car and then fled on foot westbound on Oleander Drive and then northbound toward Hilltop Drive. The employee was following in a tow truck.
The deputy located the suspect, identified as Jonathan Polkey, 39, in a front yard in the 61900 block of Oleander Drive. Polkey allegedly admitted to the deputy that he took the car from the dealership’s parking lot. Jonathan Polkey was arrested for investigation of grand theft auto, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000. The employee towed the stolen car back to the dealership lot.
