YUCCA VALLEY MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING CHILD PLEADS NOT GUILTY

The 34-year-old Yucca Valley man accused of killing his girlfriend’s one-year-old son was in court Wednesday. Managing editor Tami Roleff was there too, and files this report…

Arthur Davies, dressed in a green jail jumpsuit, and handcuffed, made his first appearance in a Joshua Tree courtroom Wednesday afternoon. Davies is accused of killing the one-year-old son of his girlfriend Saturday. His appearance was quick and routine. Judge John Burdick laid out the charges against Davies.

“You’re here on a felony complaint. In that complaint, you’re charged with count one, on or about February 10, 2018, the crime of murder, a felony, of John Doe. Count two, on or about February 10, 2018, the crime of assault on a child causing death, a felony.”

Davies said he could not afford his own attorney.

“I’m going to appoint the public defender’s office to represent you. I’ll enter not guilty pleas on your behalf.”

Burdick set Davies’ bail at $1 million, which Public Defender Elizabeth Crabtree asked be revisited at his next hearing on February 21.
